The MWF Autumn Luncheon was held on Friday 30 April at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club. On a magnificent sunny day, over 60 of our members and guests enjoyed a glass of bubbles and mingled on the balcony overlooking the historic tennis grounds.
After we’d finished our delicious main course, we heard from our special guest speaker Carmel Guerra OAM. As the experienced Founder and CEO of Centre for Multicultural Youth, Carmel shared with us deeply personal stories about her own experiences growing up in Melbourne and gave us an informed understanding of the many challenges faced by young refugee and migrant women across Australia. We thank Carmel for her insightful presentation and seemingly effortless storytelling and trust everyone took away valuable key learnings.
Gillian Hund OAM then spoke from the heart about former member Sue Beecher. The inaugural Sue Beecher Memorial Award was introduced by Eric Beecher, recognising outstanding contribution and exemplary leadership to our giving circle.
We congratulate Amanda Thornton for winning this prestigious award for the exceptional work she has done in helping build and lead our giving circle’s best practice grants process and for her overall dedication to furthering our mission.
Members and guests continued to socialise and enjoy the day together over tea and coffee while basking in the sunshine. We thank all our members, guests, and friends for coming along and making it a fantastic ‘in person’ event!
