MWF’s Virtual Grants Information Evening Thursday, 18 June
On Thursday, 18 June we conducted our Grants Information Evening. This event is a highlight of the MWF year and an important feature of our grants process. And, for the first time, we conducted it virtually!
Grants Committee members presented information about our three finalists for our $80,000 Signature Grant and three finalists for our $35,000 Nurturing Grant, plus their proposed programs. Additionally, we heard from our 2019 Signature Grant winner (Lighthouse Foundation) and Nurturing Grant winner (Scarf).

In Virtual Conversation with
Jo Cavanagh OAM
On Friday, 22 May, the MWF conducted its first virtual event: ‘In Virtual Conversation’ with Jo Cavanagh OAM. Jo brought her in-depth experience in the community sector and as former CEO of Family Life to this presentation about MWF’s 2020 grant focus areas: Family Violence, Homelessness and Older Women’s Issues. She also discussed how COVID-19 has made women’s needs in these areas even more acute, plus her thinking for the future and how we can collaborate to solve these crucial issues.
See her slide presentation below and/or listen to the event here.
Our sincere thanks to MWF member Simone Clancy of Yellowfin for enabling us to deliver our ‘In Virtual Conversation with Jo Cavanagh’ and Virtual Grants Information Evening!
Events Chair Lauren Sadler presents Johnson Recruitment as our host. Julie Reilly will speak about her Churchill Trust Fellowship then Gillian Hund talks about a Giving Circle Conference attended in USA.
‘Using Money as Medicine – Philanthropy’s Role as a Force for Social Justice’
Krystian Seibert is an advocate for philanthropy and the NFP sector. He is an Industry Fellow at the Centre for Social Impact at Swinburne University and writes about the sector for newspapers and magazines. His talk will be very engaging and informative!
Members will hear from our 2018 Grant Awardees and then from the Grants Committee about our 2019 Grant finalists: the organisations and the programs they would like to be funded by MWF.
Our 5th Annual Grant Awards event provides members with the opportunity to hear from our 6 Grant Finalists and then vote which organisations they wish to be awarded the Signature and the Nurturing Grants.

Each program focuses on at least one of our 2020 grant areas—Homelessness, Family Violence and Older Women’s Issues—relating to vulnerable women and families in Melbourne. Additionally, our 2019 grant winners, Lighthouse Foundation and Scarf, will report on their progress to date.
For our $80,000 Signature Grant, the finalists are Margaret Tucker Hostel for Girls, Birth for Humankind and Domestic Violence Victoria.
For our $35,000 Nurturing Grant, the finalists are Family Access Network, Housing for the Aged Action Group and Self Help Addiction Resource Centre.
Reminder: only individuals who have joined and fully paid their annual membership by 30 June can vote for the organisations they feel should win these grants at our 16th July Awards Celebration. To join or renew, please click here.
