Announcing changes to our Grants Program for 2020/2021

Since our founding, Melbourne Women’s Fund has focused on ethical, transparent giving, and as we mature, so our granting process is also maturing.

Timetable Change

We distribute 100% of the membership donations we receive each financial year to non-profits through our grants program. To meet the July deadline for our Annual Grant Awards Celebration, in previous years we have opened our grants round as early as February with our ‘best guess’ of funding we would offer that year – without knowing for sure until June 30th.

This placed undue pressure on the Grants and Membership committees to meet our grant level commitments. The advent of COVID and its impact on charitable giving has created even more uncertainty on our funding levels.

So from this financial year 2020/2021, we are shifting the Grants process to begin in July and culminate with the Annual Grant Awards Celebration in November.

This way, we can focus on bringing you events and building our membership leading up to June 30th and be certain of the grant amounts we offer, all while reducing the stress on our hardworking volunteer staff.

Open Applications

The 2021 Melbourne Women’s Fund grants round will begin accepting Expressions of Interest on 5 July.
Rather than being invitation-only, applications are open to all non-profits assisting vulnerable women and families in Melbourne that meet the eligibility requirements. We will be advertising our grants via multiple channels.

Eligibility requirements, along with the application guidelines and forms, will be available on our website by late May.

This year, let’s see how much more we can do for vulnerable women and their families in Melbourne. For so many recovering from the COVID bite, it really is a case of now more than ever.
